A team of volunteer medics from the humanitarian charity Doctors of Rahman has been providing emergency medical care following a deadly bus crash in eastern Syria that killed at least 35 people and injured around 30 others.
The incident occurred on Saturday, July 25, 2026, when two buses collided on a major highway connecting eastern Syria to Damascus, the capital. One bus was reportedly carrying members of the Internal Security Forces, while the other was transporting civilians. Emergency services, including ambulances and medical helicopters, were deployed to evacuate the injured as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
DOR Emergency Response
Doctors of Rahman (DOR) confirmed that its emergency teams were among those treating victims of the mass casualty event. Doctors performed 52 emergency surgeries until now, treating 19 severe trauma patients in a single overnight shift, working continuously to stabilise critical cases.
Hospitals in the region are under significant strain due to shortages of medical equipment, staff, and emergency care facilities, making large-scale trauma response particularly challenging.
Life-Saving Airway Surgery Captured in Video
,Doctors demonstrated how advanced medical equipment helped save the life of a critically injured patient who was unable to breathe following the crash. Syrian resident doctors were struggling as they did not have the required equipment.
The footage shows medics using a video laryngoscope, a specialised device that allows clinicians to clearly visualise the airway during emergency intubation procedures. DOR was only able to procure this device through donations. The equipment enabled doctors to secure the patient’s airway quickly in a situation where traditional methods would have been significantly more difficult.
“The right training combined with the right tools can save lives,” the organisation said, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by Syrian hospitals lacking emergency medical equipment and training.
