Over five decades of public service, he has spearheaded healthcare initiatives reaching more than 20 countries—delivering emergency surgical care, maternal and newborn health infrastructure, cleft and clubfoot operations, and frontline relief across crisis areas including Gaza, Sudan, and Pakistan.

    Renowned for extraordinary personal philanthropy, Professor Gatrad has donated over £500,000 and his entire NHS earnings to charity, exemplifying leadership by example. As the visionary founder of WASUP (World Against Single Use Plastic), he bridges planetary environmental health with child wellbeing, having received the BBC 'Making a Difference' Award, Freedom of the Borough of Walsall, and appointment as Deputy Lieutenant to the Crown.

We respond rapidly with emergency healthcare, surgery and essential medicines where they are needed most, always guided by respect, compassion and the realities of the communities we serve. We support displaced medical and dental students to continue their education, provide virtual teaching in conflict zones and strengthen local healthcare systems by training and empowering health professionals.     In 2014 he was given Freedom of the Borough of Walsall and made Deputy Lieutenant to Her Majesty the Queen, for West Midlands. For his global humanitarian work he has been awarded a Doctor of Science from the University of Wolverhampton

    Doctors of Rahman’s humanitarian work has earned high-level recognition from government and diplomatic officials. The organisation has met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Ambassadors to support relocating hundreds of displaced medical and dental students from Gaza. It also coordinated medical missions and relief convoys to Merowe and Khartoum with Sudan’s Embassy, and partnered with Palestine’s Embassy in India to supply medicines and equipment to Gaza. In Afghanistan, it met with the Ministry of Public Health to assess infrastructure and strengthen clinical training. These engagements reflect its growing recognition as a trusted humanitarian partner building sustainable healthcare solutions worldwide.

    World Health Organization (WHO) Emergency Medical Team Response Appreciation
    On 15 June 2026, Doctors of Rahman received a formal letter of appreciation from the World Health Organization (WHO) in recognition of its Emergency Medical Team response in Sudan, supporting vulnerable and displaced communities during a period of immense humanitarian need. The response delivered direct medical care across critical specialties, including surgery, oncology and internal medicine, while also strengthening local emergency capacity through the establishment of a medical oxygen plant, providing a sustainable source of oxygen for emergency treatments and surgical procedures. Doctors of Rahman additionally distributed approximately 500 kg of essential medical supplies alongside vital food assistance, helping address both immediate healthcare and humanitarian needs. Working closely with Sudanese health authorities, including the Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, the team reviewed clinical interventions and explored opportunities to expand and strengthen future medical projects. Doctors of Rahman also developed and coordinated virtual telemedicine networks, enabling real-time clinical support and specialist consultations for communities and healthcare teams in areas where physical access was severely restricted. The WHO’s letter of appreciation recognised the organisation’s collaboration, medical expertise and humanitarian commitment, highlighting its contribution to strengthening emergency response and supporting Sudan’s health system during a critical period.
